Stubborn Faith

Real faith is stubborn. It is immovable, unshaken, and impossible to persuade from its foundation. It is a firm trust in God that refuses to waver, no matter the challenge.

This kind of faith is not just a belief—it is a resolve, a confidence, a refusal to be moved. Scripture is filled with examples of this unwavering faith, and each passage reminds us that faith is more than feeling—it is action, perseverance, and endurance.

Abraham’s Faith

“Yet he did not waver through unbelief regarding the promise of God, but was strengthened in his faith and gave glory to God, being fully persuaded that God had power to do what he had promised.”

Abraham’s faith was a refusal to doubt, even when circumstances seemed impossible. He and Sarah were beyond childbearing age, yet God had promised him descendants as numerous as the stars. Instead of questioning God’s promise, Abraham grew stronger in faith. His faith was stubborn, meaning it stood firm despite logical reasons to doubt.

This kind of faith teaches us to trust God’s word over visible reality. If God has spoken, it will come to pass. A stubborn faith doesn’t waver—it clings to God’s promise.

Unshaken

“If we are thrown into the blazing furnace, the God we serve is able to deliver us from it, and he will deliver us from Your Majesty’s hand. But even if he does not, we want you to know, Your Majesty, that we will not serve your gods or worship the image of gold you have set up.”

Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego displayed a faith that refused to bend to pressure. They were not just hoping God would save them—they were confident in Him even if He did not deliver them from the flames. This is what makes faith truly unshakable:

• It doesn’t rely on favorable outcomes.
• It remains true even under persecution.
• It prioritizes loyalty to God over personal safety.

Faith like this tells the world, “I will not bow. I will not be moved. My trust in God is greater than my fear.”

Anchored

“But when you ask, you must believe and not doubt, because the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind.”

James warns about the danger of a weak, wavering faith. A faith that sways with circumstances is no faith at all. True faith is anchored—it does not shift based on the latest opinions, pressures, or trials. This passage reminds us:

• Faith must be firm to be effective.
• Doubt weakens prayers and direction.
• The spiritually mature are not easily influenced by false teachings or emotional instability.

A stubborn faith stands like a lighthouse against the crashing waves. It does not shift with every new ideology, but remains rooted in God’s eternal truth.

Perseverance

“Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith.”

Faith is not passive—it is endurance. The Christian journey is a marathon, requiring resilience and focus. Many start strong, but only the stubbornly faithful finish well. This passage teaches us:

• Faith requires discipline—we must reject distractions and sin.
• Perseverance is key—faith is not about moments of passion but a lifetime of consistency.

Tossed to and Fro

“Then we will no longer be infants, tossed back and forth by the waves, and blown here and there by every wind of teaching and by the cunning and craftiness of people in their deceitful scheming.”

Mature faith is not easily influenced or deceived. It stands firm in truth, resisting false doctrines, manipulative philosophies, and fleeting cultural trends. Stubborn faith:

• Is rooted in the unchanging Word of God.
• Does not compromise to fit the world’s expectations.
• Resists manipulation and remains discernment-driven.

This kind of faith is strong, resilient, and unmovable. It refuses to be carried away by the tides of deception.

The Beauty of Stubborn Faith

The world may see stubbornness as a flaw, but in faith, stubbornness is a strength. To believe in God’s promises despite all odds, to refuse to be swayed by every voice, to stand firm in the face of opposition—this is the faith that pleases God.

Jesus praised those with unwavering faith (Matthew 15:28). Paul commended those who endured (2 Timothy 4:7). And God Himself rewards those who remain steadfast (Revelation 3:11).

May our faith be so deeply rooted, so steadfast, so unshaken, that nothing—no trial, no doubt, no persuasion—can move us from the firm foundation of God’s truth.
